The 2024 Republican presidential primary race will be the first since Donald Trump lost the White House, and the former president is expected to be in a “strongest possible position” as he seeks to reclaim it.
Trump enjoys huge popularity within his party, and is benefited by the fact that the president has no clear successor, at least as of now. Even if a likely nominee emerges, Republican voters will likely give Trump the greatest consideration.
Trump is expected to roll out a formidable operation for the contest, with a campaign team that could include longtime advisors such as Corey Lewandowski, Lara Trump, and Jason Miller. Trump has yet to formally announce his candidacy, but he has already held several “Make America Great Again” rallies in key states.
Among Trump’s other advantages are a massive base of small-dollar supporters and his experience as a powerful campaigner. The former president is also well-positioned to capitalize on his anti-establishment messaging and could hop on emerging flash points in the GOP.
It is still very early in the race, but Trump could easily find himself in a strong position when the formal campaign begins.
